Press Release for the 24 November Urumchi Fire

Press Release for the 24 November Urumchi Fire

Our beloved people, our esteemed NGO representatives, and respected members of the press;

We would like to share with the world the astonishing news that more than 30 East Turkestan people, including children and women, lost their lives due to the closing of the doors, special aisles for fire trucks and fire escapes in a fire that broke out in a neighborhood where Uyghurs concentrated in the city of Urumchi in East Turkestan on the evening of 24 November and We are here with all our people and NGO representatives to condemn the invading China that is solely responsible for this atrocity. Since August, China has caused hundreds of people to lose their lives due to hunger or diseases, by shutting people to their homes and disrupting food and health transportation, with inhumane practices under the name of zero covid policy in different cities of East Turkestan. In this short period, they have been building more concentration camps under the name of quarantine camps, increasing the number of concentration camps it has continued since 2016, and further strengthening its genocide policies. The incident in Urumchi on Thursday evening, November 24, is one of the most brutal consequences of the so-called quarantine practiced by China, disregarding the safety of people's lives in East Turkestan, and killing people by locking them in their homes.

In the fire, 5 families lost their lives with their children. Fire cars, policemen, health workers, and neighbors in the vicinity were condemned to watch only because the doors were closed, and they could not intervene. After this brutality, the people of Urumchi acted on the streets against China's closure policies, showed their reactions on social media, and are fighting for their rights, knowing that they are putting their lives at risk. China forcibly repressed those who protested, arrested those who posted on social media, and sent public threatening messages.

I would like to reiterate that as the people of East Turkestan, as the International Union of East Turkestan Non-Governmental Organizations, we will continue our struggle for the freedom and independence of the people of East Turkestan, by expanding our fight through all legitimate means.

It is the most painful reality of today that the world, the so-called human rights defenders, and social and political movements remain silent, and being incapable of finding a solution to the East Turkestan problem, and leaving the people of East Turkestan to die, while China has been occupying East Turkistan for 73 years, committing the crime of genocide for the last 6 years, and exporting slave labor and forced labor products, rendering dysfunctional principles of the International organizations, human rights organizations, and all countries, that supposed to go further and protect and strengthen international peace, human rights, universal values and save oppressed peoples, by its vicious method.

While 8 million people were imprisoned innocently in concentration camps, while more than 500 thousand were imprisoned in children's camps, while honors were violated and lives were lost, we, the people of East Turkestan, appeal to the conscience of the world and especially the Turkish-Islamic world. It is a time to act, it is time to support, and it is time to stop China from its crimes against humanity and genocide.

Finally, as the International Union of East Turkestan Organizations, together with all NGO representatives, community leaders, activists, our dear East Turkestan people, and all our brothers who came to support us, we call the Organization of Turkic States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Entire Turkic-Islamic World, UN, EU, and other International institutions and states to take more efficient and practical steps to stop the genocide in East Turkestan, to impose sanctions on China, to boycott Chinese products, to condemn and resist the genocide, to send an independent investigation delegation to clarify the real reasons behind the Urumchi fire, to be our voice and to stop the East Turkestan genocide.

I express my gratitude to everyone, the press, and my beloved people and supporters from various communities.

 With Respect:

Hidayet Oguzkhan
