EAST TURKISTAN HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH ASSOCIATION 2023 ANNUAL INDEX

The widespread human rights crisis in East Turkistan which has been under oppression since being occupied by the Chinese state, maintains its paramount importance. The assimilation policies have gained momentum over the past decade, escalating to the level of genocide through internment camps, ‘counterterrorism’ campaigns, and state violence which have inflicted deeper wounds on the people of East Turkistan than ever before. Despite the Chinese government’s efforts to censor media coverage and supress international public opinion regarding the ongoing violations, current sources continue to document the existence of internment camps, arbitrary arrests, torture, forced labor, and mandatory birth control policies in East Turkistan. We have prepared The East Turkistan Human Rights Watch Association’s 2023 Annual Index to record, document, and present comprehensive data on the ongoing human rights violations in East Turkistan and developments concerning the East Turkistan issue. With this index, we have created an accessible resource for an average reader as well as for researchers actively working in this field to understand the events taking place in East Turkistan. The distinctive feature of this resource is its focus on providing concise and informative data rather than a lengthy and detailed report. Through this index, readers will have the opportunity to grasp, the global occurrences related to the East Turkistan issue, publications made, policies regarding the issue, and steps taken within the international community. With visual materials, infographics, and informative texts, we aim to provide you, our readers, with a comprehensive perspective on the East Turkistan issue. We hope that our work will contribute to raising awareness among broader audiences on the East Turkistan issue.
