Mohammad Syafiq Ismail

Mohammad Syafiq Ismail is a Malaysian researcher and activist residing in Istanbul, Turkiye. He completed his Bachelor of Art in Shariah from Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He completed his Master of Arts in Islamic Studies from Universiti Malaysia Sabah with focus on Islamic Philosophy, written a thesis under the title ‘Discourse of Contemporary Muslim Identity from Ibn Rusyd’s Perspective’. He is currently a PhD candidate (PhDc) in Islamic Studies at the same university, writing a thesis about Islam, modernity and the question of progress.
As an activist, he is currently part of ABIM (Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia – Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia) central leadership, as Head of Dakwah Bureau. During his tenure, he developed and planned dakwah contents –video and written contents- with the use of social media platforms (ie. Facebook, Twitter). He also had translated and still translating works of prominent Islamic scholars from Arabic/English into Malay, and distributed by ABIM Press as printed works and distributing ebooks as a non-profit project on ABIM Press digital platform. He prepared various articles on Islam and muslim societies and a columnist for ‘Tinta Ilmiah’ section of Shoutul Islam, a weekly bulletin published by JHEAINS, local religious authority of Sabah state, his motherland.
He works closely with Uyghur community and been very active in creating contents promoting Uyghur cause among international community. He currently resides in Istanbul, Turkiye, as he was appointed as an international coordinator for International Union of East Turkistan Organizations (IUETO) and an official representative of ABIM in Turkiye for 2023-2024 tenure.
